Early Life and Roots

Omobosola Karimat Alaka, popularly known as Okal, was born on October 19, 1997, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Growing up in the culturally rich environment of Ibadan, Okal was deeply influenced by the vibrant heritage of Oyo State, which later became a significant part of her identity as an artist.

Okal is a proud graduate of the University of Benin (Uniben), where she studied Adult Political Science. Her academic background has provided her with a unique perspective on the world, which she seamlessly integrates into her music. This blend of education and creativity has allowed her to craft music with a strong message, aiming to impact society positively.

Okal's professional journey in music began in 2014, where she set out to make her mark in the Afro Soul Highlife genre. Her initial years were marked by both original compositions and creatively reimagined refixes of popular hits, such as Tekno's "Pana," Davido's "If," Victor AD's "Wetin We Gain," and a distinctive female refix of "Fvck You."

2019 was a breakthrough year for Okal, as she gained significant recognition following her partnership with Royale Records. The release of her debut video "Cost A Thang," directed by Lucas Ried and produced by the renowned Puffy Tee, cemented her status as a rising star in the Nigerian music scene. Musical Journey Unfolds: Okal continued her upward trajectory with the release of "Lover Boy" in 2019, distributed by HighVibes Distribution. The accompanying video, directed by Fs Cinema, further established her as a force to be reckoned with. That same year, she collaborated once more with Puffy Tee on the track "Oribiruku" (Bad Energy), closing the year with another visually captivating video directed by Lucas Ried.
